Queens Streets Grow More Dangerous

The 2021 traffic statistics are in. The number of people killed on New York City streets is the highest it’s been since 2013. There 273 deadly accidents in total.

The number killed in Queens was particularly high, coming in at 11 deaths. Many of these accidents were between motor vehicles and pedestrians. Several others were accidents between cars and bikes. Many of these accidents were hit-and-run accidents.

Nearly 60% were killed by “major violators,” meaning they fled the scene, had at least three prior convictions, or did not have a valid driver’s license.

Transportation Alternatives is redesigning intersections for pedestrian safety and fortifying 50% of the plastic-protected bicycle lane barriers with sturdier protection.  The Department of Transportation is working on a plan that will add 150 miles of dedicated bus lanes and 250 miles of protected bike lanes.

It’s vital for Queens residents to know their rights after losing a loved one to one of these accidents.

If your loved one was a pedestrian or cyclist engaged in a catastrophic or deadly accident, your loved one has rights. You may, too.

Catastrophic Accidents

In a catastrophic accident a personal injury suit can help you recover medical bills, expenses, and lost wages. If you’ve lost your ability to work as a result of your accident then a personal injury lawyer can also help you get money for your loss of earning capacity. You also get compensation for your pain and suffering.

You will need an attorney. Catastrophic accidents can be extremely expensive. That means the car insurance company isn’t going to want to pay for the accident. They’re not going to do the right thing unless you show them you mean business.

Wrongful Death Suits

If your loved one died as a result of the accident and you’re the spouse, parent, or child of that loved one, then you can bring a wrongful death lawsuit.

Wrongful death claims include lost earnings, loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and funeral expenses. If your loved one was in the hospital prior to dying the wrongful death suit can cover those expenses as well.
